Ready to party!

I realize it's a little late for Thanksgiving and a little early for New Year's but I am just feeling so thankful. Plus we will probably be too busy for the rest of the year to blog so I need to wrap it up now. 2009 has been SO good to me. It's amazing what you realize when you really just look back on the year and see what happened in your life.

I hit some HUGE milestones in the past year. I got married to my love and best friend, I graduated COLLEGE (best feeling ever to be done with school), I got LASIK (a miracle in and of itself), I started my first real job AND started Sassy Pose!

I have such a great life with so many blessings! I am able to be around people that I love and that care about me every day. We have a lot of family and friends and we are so lucky to have the relationships we have. I can't imagine having a better year than this one but I have a lot of New Year's resolutions so we are going to try.

Chris and I are about to have the greatest end of the year celebrations! It's going to be legendary. We just got back from a weekend with Chris' family in Marysville (the whole family hasn't been together since our wedding) so we got to see everyone and celebrate Christmas! Tomorrow we are going to have a Christmas celebration at my Mom's house. In a couple days we are flying into Vegas then get to spend Christmas in St. George with my family (minus Mom who we will miss dearly). Then Chris' WHOLE family is coming to St. George for a big celebration for his grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary. I will get to meet a bunch of the extended family I haven't met. Since OUR first year anniversary will be while we are down there we will celebrate that AND New Year's right when we get back. Yahooooooo!!! Can't wait!

Here are some pics from this weekend. Probably Chris' two fave gifts from his parents. We're getting all ready for the celebrating!

I'll be back with new posts, pics and videos from all this celebration fun in the new year!

Decoration Nation

I have a new love for decorating since I have a whole home to decorate for the holidays for the first time! Just walking through a craft store I get so excited and inspired to try different things. I didn't want to do the traditional red and green tree so I chose to do blue, green, and silver. You can't really tell in the picture but there are lime green bulbs and leaves on the tree too!

It's all thanks to my Mom that I have all these decorations...literally. I don't have the original thoughts. I might get some spark of an idea and then my Mom shows up at the door with a bag full of materials from the craft store. So it's been fun to put everything together and have something fun to do with the girls of my family. Chris isn't so into the decorating. It's actually pretty funny because its like he gets stressed out when I ask him to do anything related to he'll be in trouble if he does it wrong. But he did lovvve putting the Seahawks candy canes on the tree!

I took pictures of different decorations around our and my Mom made or put together all of them!

For some unknown reason, this pinecone is my favorite decoration out of ALL of them. I just think its so cute on the candle holder...

Mom spraying the garland with SNOW IN A CAN! I had a little too much fun with that one on the windows.

Another one of my ABSOLUTE favorite things about the holiday season are the SMELLS! We walked into the YMCA last week and I about died because they were selling those pine wreaths. It just smells like Christmas and I love it! I will also die for baked goodies smells and peppermint and cinnamon. Last weekend when I was shopping with my Mom in law we found this AMAZING candle and she bought it for us. Its sugar cookie but it smells EXACTLY like rainbow chip cake batter. We have been burning it nonstop and I have to tell myself to not taste the wax everytime ;)

Holiday Season!

We have just been startin the HoLiDaYs off right! I'm feeling chatty so you probably should skip this one if you don't want the details of my life :) We had such a great Thanksgiving over at my Mom's house in Bonney Lake! The night before we had everyone go see New Moon since we're all fans! It was way fun and I made homemade caramel popcorn for the first time. Quite an experience! The next day was a really chill day. Chris got up early and played in the Turkey Bowl in the pouring rain. And I was in charge of dessert so I was up baking all morning. Just slaving away. We had dinner in the afternoon...everything was delicious! My Mom is always really fun and creative at holidays. We had a Mayflower centerpiece with MM's in it so I was happy. We busted out our old Thanksgiving song that we learned when we were little kids (I'm sure Chris was wondering what he got himself into) and we had a competition to see who could make the best turkey noise. Pretty entertaining! My chocolate pumpkin pie dessert didn't turn out like I wanted but my corn on the cob cookies seemed to be a hit! After the meal we assumed the post meal position (meaning we crashed on the floor, too full to move) we played catch phrase which eventually turned into the girls watching Scottee and Chris play NBA live on the PS3. When we went home I thought I was being all good trying to start a new traddy and busted out a "Thanksgiving journal"! I thought we could start with our first Thanksgiving as a married couple and write about what we were thankful for that particular year so we could reflect on what happens through the years. Chris was not feelin it at all but he found some words deep in the goodness of his heart to add to the journal. YES! Tradition started!

Since Chris had to work early the next morning we decided to just go to Marysville to visit the Hayes fam for the weekend instead of Thanksgiving day so we had more time. So we left around noon Friday and drove up to Marys. It was a great weekend getaway and good to see Alyssa and Michelle (Chris' sister and Mom)...oh and a cute plump and shaggy Murphy. We did some black Friday shopping, went out to Red Robin (so delish I want my usual right now) and went to the movies. We saw The Blind Side and it was amazing! We all absolutely loved it! If I felt like going into a movie review right now I would convince you to see it but its not the time so I will just give it 5 stars! Chris got his madden playing time in while I got caught up on magazines (they seem to always have a bunch of good ones I need to read). I got some one on one shopping time with my Mom-in-law. She bought us the most amazing candle! It smells exactly like rainbow chip cake batter. And it even has little sprinkles in it! I love! So anyway, it was a fun shopping trip and we decided to rent a movie for us to watch at night. We looked EVERYWHERE for four Christmases and finally had to settle for Year One. I fell asleep during it like usual and had the best night's sleep. Successful trip! They are always fun and funny and its just a good time. So we are glad we are able to just drive the hour and 15 mins up whenever we want. This Thanksgiving I was thankful that we have the mother ship of both of our families so close. We are so lucky!

Starting the Sassy Biz!

I am just REALLY excited about what my sister Kimmie and I are getting into right now. We decided to go into business together and sell our products online. We are starting with jewelry, handbags and SHOES! You can already tell by that last word being in all caps that I am probably going to be our best customer. I'm a sucker for some hot heels!

We came up with the idea because of all the things we have been learning about online marketing and such through the work we have been doing. I actually planned a different business for different members of our family. We are going to be starting Kailey's Babysitting business and Mom's crafty business soon too!

We are not out to make millions of dollars here. We just thought it would be a good experience to build something from scratch and have fun doing it. We've been doing research, making orders from wholesalers and planning the website and marketing.

The whole point of selling the products is to provide cute and sassy pieces that are inexpensive to girls with our similar style. We went through and picked out everything that we like basically. We also got our little sister's opinions for their age group. We're starting with accessories and are going to start adding clothes gradually. Let me just tell you that I am in LOVE with bracelets right now and there are going to be some fantastic ones in the first order.

We are also starting a blog that goes along with the biz. Its going to include posts about the looks we are loving and also weekly featured items that may be a special on the website and how to wear them and things like that. The website and blog are going to go up within this next week so check back and I'll post all the info. You can also let us know what you are looking for and we will try to include it in our upcoming orders!

His, Mine and Ours

I consider this time of year the winter. Its not really supposed to start until December but I consider winter months to be Nov.- Jan. I usually hate this time because I am in Rexburg where you pretty much have to hibernate until June but now that I am in a place with better weather! It started getting chilly just recently and I have decided to enjoy this season because it means the start of a lot of my favorite things! Here are some things we love and what we have been spending our time on lately...

Chris loves weekly football and talks about it constantly but NBA Basketball started this week and Chris is even more excited about that. That's a great thing about this season is that there is always a game to watch to stay entertained while we're stuck inside. I'm always a MAVS fan and Chris is Celtics all the way! We might need to ban TV on the nights they play each could get violent :)

I love when its chilly outside. Chilly enough to wear warm comfy clothes but not so cold you have to bundle up. I am loving pulling knee high boots on and cute jackets and sweaters. Winter clothes are the best because its cute to be comfortable too. I am loving planning outfits with scarves, jackets and hats. I also love baking and scrapbooking in the winter. Oh I LOVE even talking about it now. My favorite day is just staying inside and lighting a great smelling candle, turning on some music and baking goodies! YES I can't wait!

We are absolutely obsessed with this beauty...

It's called a Cocomotion and it is pretty much the best invention ever. You just put in the water and hot cocoa mix and push the button and it stirs and heats for you. I introduced Chris to it last month and now he loves making Hot Chocolate all the time. Its going to be like our morning coffee this season.

My mother in law Michelle sent us a cute Halloween card with Moolah so we could go out to eat to celebrate. We decided to try a new place since we love teriyaki places and there aren't any really good ones around here. We found a little Teriyaki place called Mo Doo #2 and we fell in love. It smells weird on the inside and there are random fish and christmas lights on the wall but the food was so good so that is prob where we are gonna become regulars for the winter.

We're also so excited to celebrate all the holidays and spend time with our families. Its great to be in Washington! There will be more stories and pics to come!

Turnin 50!

I know that every other family member posted on Mom's 50th birthday celebration but I decided that I am going to post too because I have some cute pictures! It turned out to be a lot of fun and I think Mom felt special and loved on her big birthday!

Since Scott is taking her on a week-long California vacation during her birthday week we thought we would just have one special night with just the kids since it is a special birthday. We were originally going to do a big surprise party but Mom caught on to the idea and BEGGED not to have a party so we planned something more simple.

Kimmie, Kailey, Scottee, Chris and I picked her up and brought some birthday headbands for the girls. We car danced on our way over to South Hill for dinner. We planned on going to TGIFridays but when we got there we discovered it was closed down...oops. So we hit up Red Robin. Our special activity of the night was 50 memories from your 50 years. Each of the kids came up with 10 memories of Mom and we had her read them throughout the dinner. It was fun reliving all the memories! The Red Robin crew brought her balloons and sang to her and we had a great dinner! She loved the Miche bag that we all got for her. Its the comes with magnetic covers so you can change the cover whenever you want and it turns into a whole new purse. Back at her house we had some more singing and cake!

Before cake we stopped to check out our new place! We nicknamed it THE CAVE!

We missed THE LOTTS! It would have been even better with you there! But I took some videos just for you!

My Expertise

I love how pretty much every person that watches TV becomes some kind of expert. Have you ever realized that? We somehow instantly become an expert on whatever it is that we are watching TV about. I have realized lately watching America's Next Top Model...I critique every pose and facial expression, and Project Runway...I don't just share my opinions but I think I know why that would "never sell in a store", and American Idol...everyone suddenly is an expert in the music industry, talking about "that song was just too safe" or "their range just isn't wide enough" or "they won't sell any CDs with songs like that". It's funny how we see others and can so clearly see what they need to do to be successful but we can't see it in ourselves. That's because things are easier said than done. I have noticed it with other types of things too. Like guys watching a sports game..they constantly talk about how "you should've caught that" and what "they" would do if they were in the game. Like its so easy. Haha!

I seriously get a kick out of it now! I catch myself turning into an expert. Then I remember that the people on TV are out there doing something that they may not be good at or that makes them look stupid but I am the one sitting in my living room on the couch just watching them on TV. - Just sharing a thought.

So since I am a modeling expert (yeah right!) I helped teach my stepsister and her friends how to model then we did a little makeup and a photoshoot for her birthday. Chris and I were taking some pictures beforehand to practice...

The Hunger Games

I just finished reading this amazing book! My Mom and sister recommended it to me and I'm glad they did. I am not a 'huge reader'...I am not one to go out and look for new authors or "discover" a new series. I always read books that are recommended to me. That's why my favorites are the big name/popular books (Twilight series, Work & Glory).

Anyway, when I heard what this one is about I was a little skeptical because it sounded weird. And it was weird but it is one of those books that makes you think. It is just so fun to read. And it also has a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter. I couldn't put it down! It has unique characters, a new idea and so many twists! I also felt every emotion you can feel. I think that is the best kind of book. I loved it!

I would give a little description of what its about but I am not a good writer and definitely not a book critic. I thought I would just share what I think about it. So if anyone has any more recommendations for me I would love to hear them! Then I will have something to read as soon as I read the sequel to "The Hunger Games".

My husband is absolutely obsessed with sports! He has ESPN on as much as possible, he texts during church to find out scores and he has already named our dog (which we haven't even bought) after a football player. Sometimes I get sick of hearing and seeing sports all the time and sometimes its really cute because it brings out the kid in him. When he knows a Seahawks game is going to be on he will run upstairs and come back down with his Seahawks shirt on and a football in hand. He stands up during the whole game and sometimes even acts out a play he just saw. Thats when I can't help but love it.

So Chris found some Seahawks tickets on sale for a good price on When he was asking if we could buy some and go to a game he just looked up at me with hopeful eyes and said "it would be a dream come true". So we planned it all out and were really excited we had found a way we didn't have to worry about parking since that is one of the worst parts about doing things in the city. We decided to ride the sounder which is the train that goes through a bunch of cities. We thought it was a perfect way to avoid $30 parking and Seattle traffic.
We got to the train station at a perfect time so we would get to the game a half hour early. The guy there helped us get our tickets. He asked "you going to the game?" we told him we were and he said "so you want round trip tickets?" of course we got them and took our place waiting for the train. We got to leave our car right there so it would be waiting for us when we got back. Perfect plan right? WRONG!

So it was a fun ride and as soon as we got to Seattle we thought we would check what time we would need to be back to get on a train home. We couldn't find a schedule so we found a woman in uniform and asked "what time is the last train leaving?" and she said "6:15...right now...the one you just got off of is the last one of the night!" So we were basically stranded in Seattle if we didn't hop right back on. We freaked out a little bit but then just laughed our way into the stadium because our "perfect" plan wasn't so "planned out" afterall. This is why it is so great to have family members around that are there for you when you need it. Kimmie so kindly drove around Seattle and picked us up and my Mom met halfway and picked us up from there and took us to our car that was waiting at the train station. At least the Seahawks won!

There is just one thing that keeps bugging me...WHY DID THE GUY AT THE SUMNER TRAIN STATION ASK IF WE WANTED ROUND TRIP TICKETS IF THERE WAS NO TRAIN BACK? He knew we were just going to the game...he let us pay full price and everything. I don't get it...but I guess thats the kind of thing that makes experiences like these memorable.

Apparel Obsession!

I have been liking clothes lately. I mean LOVING clothes. I haven't really been shopping a lot or buying clothes since I am a newlywed and I think it's important to save for things like the future and know...important things. So anyway lately I have been online shopping...without actually purchasing. My favorites right now are Express and Charlotte Russe. I just have this really cute style planned in my mind. So I will find everything I want for my new style and put them in my shopping bag just in case I stumbled upon a large sum of money sometime soon. It's just fun ok :)
Two of my favorite shows right now are Project Runway and Rachel Zoe. More clothes! I am even considering taking on a new hobby of sewing to see if I am secretly a genius designer and I just haven't discovered my skills yet.

My closet would be completely empty if it weren't for my Mom. We go through catalogs together and decide what we need for our style. Then she will just show up with clothes that she just "saw in the store and thought I needed". It's just the greatest! Those are my favorite days. Not JUST because I get new clothes but because its fun! And I really like the idea of someone just seeing something and thinking "that is just so Melissa"! She will be the first on my thank you list when I win some type of designer or stylist of the year award (not sure if that exists yet)!

The thing that really made me want to write this post was mostly this picture I am about to show. This is Lady Gaga at the MTV Video Music Awards. She changed like 4 times and every time her outfits were just SO ridiculous. I love seeing different styles. Most of the time I couldn't pull it off but I think its fun when people are different. This is just too far out there. She went ahead and wore neck braces and feathers and some weird wreath around her face but this was just too much. Here is what she wore when accepting her award:

I am cracking up right now! In case you were wondering..that is red lace just going right over her face. Good thing she has some great songs!

Now one of my favorite outfits of all time would be way out there too...if I wore it today. But at the time it would be gorgeous. This is one of the times I wish I lived in so I could wear the beautiful dresses. This is my fave! The hat is the best part. Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady:

I have been such a scaredy cat lately! I don't know if I have some fear of being alone or if I can't handle living in a two story place when I'm used to a tiny apartment. Chris is working a lot of hours and his job is an hour away so he is leaving while its still dark, pretty much in the middle of the night. It's a really good job so its worth it but one of the sacrifices (besides him having to be in the car almost 3 hours a day) is that we have different sleeping schedules. He tries to not wake me up and he always locks the front door when he leaves but as soon as I know I'm completely alone....I freak out. I hold my breath and my heart starts racing and I can't fall back asleep!

Its the weirdest thing and I don't know what to do about it. One BIG regret i'm having right about now is seeing so many scary movies. I used to love watching them but now I never do...and its a good thing too. One night Scottee came to sleep here and I just fell right back to sleep once I said goodbye to Chris. Just right away! I didn't even stop to think if I was alone or anything. Even though all the same little noises were being made I am just comforted knowing i'm not the only one there. I'm going to try something new every night this week and see if anything works. So far I have decided to try listening to my IPOD, turning on the TV, counting know...we'll see what works. If nothing does...I'm going to go to my Moms every morning (that always works!)

I don't want to leave this post thinking about being scared so i'll leave with some recent videos for a change. They are just random. Enjoy!

Quick Update

We've just been living, working and playing. It's great to be out of Rexburg and starting out somewhere else. We are living in a condo in Sumner for now until we find out where Chris is going to school. I am LOVING not being in an apartment. We took over my Dad's condo since he took off to St. George. It's fun because its like the gathering area of my bro and sisters.

Rexburg Apartment and Our new home in WA

Kailey has been staying with us until school starts. We've been doing a lot of dancing and Chris and I are teaching her how to drive. She has her permit and she is getting really good. I can't believe our little girl is old enough to drive. We also got to babysit Murphy for 10 days. Murphy is the Hayes family dog. He is pretty much the best dog ever. It is so cute how he sits up and begs whenever anyone is eating. It was fun and now we have puppy fever. We want one.
